The National Fire Protection Association recommends that homeowners have their chimney inspected at least once a year.
Chimney Care Plus offers a full portfolio of chimney and venting system services. Whether it’s woodstoves, fireplaces, chimneys, or dryer vents, we understand the intricacies of the venting systems in your home. We serve Frederick, Mt. Airy, Hagerstown, Myersville and surrounding areas. And we’re equipped to address all of your maintenance and safety needs. Our services include:
Our CSIA Certified Chimney Sweeps use state-of-the-art equipment to inspect and sweep 1st- and 2nd-story chimneys of all kinds, including oil-, wood-, and gas-burning chimneys. While sweeping your system, we ensure that it’s in working order. We look for any problems that could prevent peak performance and recommend what is needed for your system to burn cleanly and safely.
In addition to servicing chimneys, we inspect and clean dryer vents in one- and two-story homes. A thorough sweep by one of our dryer exhaust technicians includes searching for any issues that might interfere with optimal operation. Highly effective diagnostic tools allow us to detect and resolve issues before they become problems.
Improperly built crowns are another common problem. If yours is cracked or poorly constructed—allowing water penetration or posing a fire hazard—if necessary we will build a proper concrete one that’s guaranteed not to crack, or in most cases we will seal the crown with the best material available unless the damage is severe.
The best way to prevent moisture from rain and snow, animals, leaves, and other debris from entering your chimney is to install a chimney cap. Our high-quality stainless steel caps carry a lifetime warranty.
Leaky or damaged chase tops, and those made of masonry, are potential hazards on prefabricated metal fireplaces. We help eliminate problems before they start by replacing masonry and rusty metal chase tops. Sometimes we can sand, paint and seal chase tops to prolong current life and looks which will also keep costs down.
We offer the full range of repairs to chimney systems, big and small—from repairing leaky flashing to tuckpointing and masonry repair to relining the flue and chimney rebuilding. Chimney leaks can become problematic quickly if not properly addressed, which is why we recommend having chimney leak repair as soon as you notice a problem.
If water is damaging your fireplace inside or out, we’ll find and fix it—no matter the source.
We use “Flash Seal” which a long-lasting repair system designed to stop leaks from faulty or deteriorated flashings around chimneys, stacks, and vents.
While we’re up there we can quickly and effectively clean your gutters so that water runs away, not into, your home.
Using a drill, rods, and chains (a special rotary cleaning device) we can remove heavy deposits of creosote from the inner walls of the flue where standard metal wire brushes cannot. This cleaning method is more expensive and only recommended if standard cleaning methods fail. The client will be informed if such method is needed as Roto-Cleaning is time consuming. Roto-Cleaning is needed mainly due to poor burning habits or because of a neglected flue serving a fireplace or a wood burning appliance.
Occasionally wood stoves and fireplaces can produce a tar or glaze called third-degree creosote which is nearly impossible to remove by regular chimney sweeping. Cre-Away is a chemical powder which modifies existing third-degree creosote by changing it to a substance that can be more easily removed by normal chimney sweeping methods. The time it takes to convert depends on many variables such as: type of wood, moisture content, burning habits, air flow, flue size and amount of existing buildup. Multiple cleanings and applications may be necessary to completely modify the existing third-degree creosote.
